The Melbourne Cup

Melbourne Cup Day is Australia's most famous Tuesday. At 3.00 pm AEST, on the first Tuesday in November.
Australians everywhere stop for one of the world's most famous horse races - the Melbourne Cup.It's a day when the nation stops whatever it's doing to listen to the race call, or watch the race on TV. Even those who don't usually bet, try their luck with a small wager or entry into a 'sweep' - a lottery in which each ticket-holder is matched with a randomly drawn horse.
The conditions for the race would state "a sweepstakes of 20 sovereigns, 10 sovereigns forfeit or 5 sovereigns if declared, with 200 sovereigns added money".
The race created considerable interest from its inception in 1861 and in front of an estimated crowd of 4000, Archer won the first Melbourne Cup.

The National Museum showcases two of Australia's icons it displays the Melbourne Cup matched. The $80,000, 18 carat gold Melbourne Cup unveils in the Museum's Hall with an official ceremony to celebrate Canberra's contribution to Melbourne Cup history.
Six-year-old Japanese racehorse Delta Blues won the 2006 Melbourne Cup run at 3pm, Tuesday, November 7.
I think The Melbourne Cup is a very interesting competition. I love radding horse and I love to feeling the speed when I running.

Bundeena Excursion.

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog Last week my classmates and I had a great time in Bundeena and Cronulla.

It was my first excursion, and with all my new friends in Sydney, it was really exciting^-^.
That morning we went on the cute little green-and-yellow ferry from Cronulla to the Royal National Park , Bundeena. I enjoyed exploring the upper reaches of the Hacking River, until the hard wind started blowing.

After 20 minutes on the waterways we arrived at Bundeena. The Royal National Park is the second oldest proclaimed park in the world (after Yellowstone in the US). First we walked through a beach. Then we climbed hills and walked through the forest and arrived at the famous Dharawal Engravings. The Dharawal people lived here possibly 30 000 years or more ago. The engravings could be from 200 to about 5 000 years old. There are several big and small fish on the rocks. We had to walk very carefully to avoid stepping on the engravings.

On our way back there was a big shower, but it was short . We just stood under the trees a while. After that went to a club and had lunch there. Sally walked very fast and joked " who ever is the last doesn't get lunch!".

When we finished lunch, and got back to Cronulla it was already 2:30pm, but we still wanted to hang around. Some stuends went back on the train but my friends and I wanted to stay and go around Cronulla shops. Before we went back to the train station we all had some big delicious icecreams there ^-^.

I was little tired when I back home, but I had a wonderful day.

The Chinese Animal Zodiac

Last week in Marion's class we were talking about superstition. The Animal Zodiac was the most mainstream superstition in China. So I searched Internet try to explain the Chinese animal zodiac.

The Chinese animal zodiac is a rotating cycle of 12 animals (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Hare, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. ), a different one for each year. These recurring animals represent a concept of time, traditionally used for dating the years in China. The Chinese lunar calendar is based on the cycle of the moon, somewhat different to the western solar calendar, with the beginning of the Chinese year falling somewhere between late January and early February.

With good knowledge and memory of the Chinese animal zodiac, it is possible to estimate a person's age, by asking what animal of the Chinese zodiac they are born in - this would place the person's age within the cycle of 12 years. It is a more polite way of discovering someone's age than asking them directly ^-^. For example my animal zodiac is Hare, do you know how old I am?

Here I'll give you some method;
2001 is the Year of the Snake,
2002 is the Year of the Horse,
2003 is the Year of the Sheep,
2004 is the Year of the Monkey,
2005 is the Year of the Rooster,
2006 is the Year of the Dog,
2007 is the Year of the Pig...
Can you numerate what Animal Zodiac you are right now? Waitting for you to reply ^-*.

Flowers through the home way.

Every day after I finish my English class, I always walk back home. There are various kinds of houses standing along the road side. They all have a little garden in front that grows flowers. It's so beautiful...

A special class

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

Last Thursday I took my makeup toolbox to the classroom. Marion offered me an opportunity to show my makeup skills. Before I came to Australia that had been my job. What I used to do was doing makeup for people who appeared on TV shows and magazine covers. I loved my job because it was always fun and challenging for me. Today the most important thing for me is to improve my English, because if I want to continue my career in Austarlia, good English is essential. I must communicate with my customers, understand them and explain what I am going to do them.

A new start

Yesterday was my first class in TAFE, it's a good start about my new life in Sydney.
I arrived here only one week ago, so everything for me was not as usual. No friends, no family, no job, no social life..... So I wish can make more friendship here, and learn more English.

Shanghai This picture is about the city where I'm come from. Shanghai is a big city and an economic center in China. I was live in this city more then 30years, every road was so familiar to me. And all my friends live around me, but now their so far.....
